<p>When blood glucose remains higher than 200mg/dl for 8-10 weeks, the  concentration of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) arises. A (HbA1c)  measurement therefore reflects the blood glucose control over a  preceding 2-3 months period, while the estimates of blood glucose  indicate the glucose value at the time of blood test. HbA1c values  between 6-7% indicate very good control on diabetes. You should aim at  keeping your blood glucose in the normal range i.e. between 90-130 mg/dl  while fasting and less than 180 mg/dl after meals and HbA1c around 7%.  Frequent tests for blood glucose are necessary when starting treatment  with insulin.</p>
<p>If you are doing capillary blood glucose test using a hand held  glucometer, do not squeeze the finger to bring out a sample after you  have picked. This invariably gives a low glucose value. Ask your  diabetes nurse for a demonstration of capillary blood glucose test.</p>
<p>Urine test for sugar is not reliable indicator of diabetes control.  Although spillage of sugar in urine occurs when the blood glucose  exceeds 180 mg/dl in the majority of healthy persons, this is not always  so in a patient with diabetes. Most patients with diabetes of many  years acquire an increase in the renal threshold for glucose (capacity  to prevent spillage of glucose into urine). Hence urine test for glucose  is not helpful for assessing control of diabetes. In the presence of  urinary infections, the bacteria eats up the sugar present in urine,  thereby making urine test for sugar unreliable.</span></p>

<p>Your daily coffee stop is probably not helping your diet. A lot of us stop by our local Starbucks on the way to work for a cup of coffee. While coffee itself barely has any calories, everything we add to it can pack on the unnecessary calories.</p>
<p>If the morning lines at every Dunkin&#8217; Donuts are telling us anything, a lot of people are masking the coffee taste with flavors and syrups, replacing coffee with calories as their daily caffeine intake. Did you know that a frappuccino can have up to 680 calories!?  That&#8217;s over a third of your daily calorie intake; I won&#8217;t be ordering any mint chocolatey chip frappuccinos any time soon!<br />
The ever-popular pumpkin spice latte, available seasonally, has 410 calories in it. If you are craving this fall treat, at least hold the whipped cream, and lower the calorie count to 340.  If Dunkin Donuts is your morning stop, a small coffee with cream and sugar will only set you back 120 calories, but that&#8217;s still 120 calories for a drink that won&#8217;t even fill you up.</p>
<p><span id="more-648"></span>Luckily, there are ways to avoid these high-calorie goodies. Instead of buying a cup of coffee every morning, try brewing your own coffee at home. This will remove you from the temptation of sugary and calorie-filled drinks. Not to mention that you won&#8217;t be throwing away a paper cup every morning, so you&#8217;ll be saving the Earth, too!</p>
<p>Try to learn to enjoy your coffee black, or with a bit of skim milk instead of cream. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to your coffee grinds before brewing for a calorie-free twist on flavored coffee. These tricks will save you both money and calories!<br />
As for low or no-calorie sweeteners, a lot of them replace the calories with chemicals, so while you&#8217;re saving yourself extra calories, you&#8217;re still harming your body in other ways. If you can&#8217;t drink unsweetened coffee, a tiny bit of natural sugar works.</p>
<p>No time to make coffee every morning? You can still buy coffee, but pay attention to what you order. Order plain brewed coffee, 5 calories, and add a bit of skim milk, your cheapest and least-fattening option. If you prefer espresso drinks, request skim milk in your latte or cappuccino. Many places will use 2 percent, or even whole otherwise. Try not to order flavored lattes, which are made with calorie-filled sugary syrups. Baristas usually generously pump these calories into your drinks; if you insist on a flavor, specify just one or two pumps. You may also consider switching from coffee to tea.</p>
<p>Green tea still has caffeine in it (though not as much), plus a bonus of antioxidants, making it a healthy caffeine fix (but don&#8217;t mistake this for a green tea frappuccino, which has 650 calories in it).<br />
That&#8217;s not to say that you shouldn&#8217;t enjoy a large mocha latte with whipped cream every now and then, but consider it a treat, not a routine.</p>

I mean, everyone is so concerned about their diet and work out program, what diet pills or vitamins to use etc etc that no one seems to even think about the mind set one must have to lose weight. That&#8217;s right, there is a certain mind set that you need to have to lose weight. Without it all the diets and work outs in the world won&#8217;t get you the lean body you want.</p>
<p>So, what kind of mind set does one need to lose weight? Well, for once you need to change your thinking about weight loss from something you do to lose weight, then go back to what you were doing before, to a permanent change in your life style. Changing your habits is of course not easy. So you have to be prepared to make those changes that may be difficult, especially at first. But above all you need to realize that those changes are good for you &#8211; eating healthy</p>
<p>(and avoiding junk food) and exercising often &#8211; those are &lt;strong&gt;good &lt;/strong&gt;things.<br />

You also need to decide whether losing weight is important to you or not. I mean, anyone who is over weight would say that getting rid of the extra fat is important to them. But their actions sure don&#8217;t seem to reflect it. Sitting on a coach eating junk food and talking about how you&#8217;d like to lose some weight and get a nice toned body isn&#8217;t going to do anything. If you want to drop pounds then your actions need to reflect that desire.</p>
<p>If you say that you want to lose fat, you better start doing things that will result in you losing weight. And you have to be prepared to take those actions and to do things. The person sitting on a coach watching TV isn&#8217;t prepared to take the actions required for them to drop belly fat, no matter what they say about wanting to lose belly fat.</p>
<p>What are the actions one needs to take? Well, weight loss isn&#8217;t exactly rocket science, the things one needs to do to lose weight are well known &#8211; follow a good diet and exercise frequently. it&#8217;s of course a good bit more complicated than that, especially with the multitude of diets and work out programs. But still the mind set is much more important &#8211; it is the difference between those who lost weight and those who gave up after a few weeks on a diet, or after they didn&#8217;t lose as many pounds or as fast as they were hoping to.</p>
<p>The right mind set will keep you going even when you want to give up and quit. So before you even start with your fat burning work outs and diets, you have to realize that certain changes to your life style will need to be made, and you have to be prepared to make them. If you don&#8217;t want to make those changes, and try to find some work around, you will just set yourself up for a disappointment when a &#8220;magic solution&#8221; you found will fail as they always do.</p>
